Florida
is rightly nick-named
the Sunshine State! Florida
covers a huge area and
the climate can vary quite
a lot depending on where
you are but generally
the summer is hot and
it can be humid in the
Southern part of the state.
Winters are usually mild
and Spring/Autumn have
some of the best weather
of all.
Ntl Parks
Florida
has millions of acres of
undeveloped public land
on which there are more
than 200 state parks, dozens
of national forests, wildlife
refuges and preserves.
Golf
Floria
has 1,200 golf courses,
the most of any US state.

STRANGE
BUT TRUE ...
The
first organised Golf Club
in America is in West Virginia
- the Oakhurst Links in
White Sulphur Springs was
established in 1884.

West
Virginia is a largely mountainous
state, cut by river valleys. With
the Ohio River as its western
boundary, it was once part of
neighbouring Virginia.
In the northeast corner, the delightful
little town of Harpers Ferry has
been protected with national park
status. This is where John Brown,
a militant abolitionist, captured
the federal arsenal in October
1859 with the aim of arming slaves
for insurrection. His raid led
ultimately to the Civil War.
YouÕll find many charming country
inns in this region, plus spa
towns and Washington family homes
set in acres of rich farmland.
Horseracing and watersports on
the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers
are popular summer activities,
while in winter you can go skiing.
The New River/Greenbrier Valley
region, in the southeast, is dominated
by fast-running rivers, their
rapids always challenging to fans
of white-water rafting. The Greenbrier
Resort at White Sulphur Springs
is a luxury resort hotel, known
for its famous golf links and
as the site of the governmentÕs
formerly secret nuclear bunker.
The stateÕs two largest cities,
Charleston and Huntingdon, are
in the Southwest. Here you can
enjoy museums, art galleries,
music and theatre and watch expert
glassblowers at work.
