IF YOU ONLY SEE ONE THING ...
Glacier National Park is the "Crown of the North American Continent", a place of natural beauty and majesty with a spectacular mix of wildlife, wilderness, sparkling lakes and pine forests.

STRANGE BUT TRUE ...
What started as a friendly competition between ranchers in north central Montana has turned into a contest each Labor Day featuring over 50 sculptures in the annual ÔWhat the HayÕ contest. It all began in 1989 when Don Derks decorated hay bales as a bull rider and put the sculpture out for show in his field along Highway 200. Not to be outdone, his neighbour dressed up a bale as a swimmer diving. The following year, locals created the "What the Hay" contest and last year there were 53 roadside entries.

Digging for dinosaurs
Visit dinosaur excavation sites, where fossils protrude from the earth and are delicately prepared for removal to research labs. You can also visit the labs or hunt for fossils in the field.

From the plains of eastern Montana to the western mountains; MontanaÕs sky sets a stage of dramatic proportions. Jagged peaks, soothing plains and open space form an unforgettable landscape. This state is perfect for those who love the outdoor life.

In summer think of dude ranches, horseback rides, hiking, fishing, golf, cowboys and Indians, rodeos and river rafting. Drive over 52-mile Going-to-the-Sun Road, which crosses Glacier National Park from east to west, for unforgettable scenery, snowcapped mountains and wildlife including grizzly and black bears. In winter, enjoy downhill and cross-country skiing or snowboarding. Ride for miles on a snowmobile or dogsled. Observe wildlife at our Watchable Wildlife sites and see buffalo at the National Bison Range. In Yellowstone National Park, geysers and mineral hot springs create magical hoarfrost and ice formations. After a day in the snow, warm up at one of our many lodges, inns, hotels or hot springs resorts.

History is all around; you can follow the Lewis and Clark Trail, see the site of CusterÕs Last Stand at Little Bighorn, explore the ghost towns and old mining camps, see Indian pictographs dating back more than 4,500 years, handle dinosaur fossils in our county museums and palaeontology centres.

Montana is truly unforgettable!
