The ÔPeach
StateÕ as Georgia is affectionately
known, has everything and more
that a visitor is looking for
in a holiday to the USA.
There is high class shopping,
dining, entertainment and the
arts in the Atlanta Metro region,
unspoilt beaches and water sports
along the Atlantic Ocean, and
classic touring in colonial
Savannah and GeorgiaÕs historic
South. Add to this GeorgiaÕs
beautiful mountains and rivers,
which open up a whole range
of outdoor pursuits and historic
trails, and you begin to understand
why the state is known as the
ÔGateway to the SouthÕ.
The many state parks offer championship
golf, hiking, biking, canoeing
and white water rafting, as
well as a host of routes that
link interests from Civil War
battlefields to bird watching.
Georgia is the largest US state
east of the Mississippi, yet
from its north to south borders
it is only 315 miles long, which
means everything is within relatively
easy driving distance. The state
is so centrally located that
GeorgiaÕs capital city, Atlanta,
is the natural gateway to the
whole of the southern US, with
most of this huge region an
approximate one hourÕs flying
time away.
